what is art therapy?
|
KNOWING & FEELING Art therapists are trained to help engage creative and expressive states of 'knowing' and 'feeling' as they apply to life and as a therapeutic recourse. Art becomes therapy when it expands on typical styles of thinking, and assists your authentic unfolding amidst personal and emotional transitions. YOUR EXPERIENCE Art therapy may work with symbol, the natural environment, poetry, art materials, observing art, journaling, dreams, movement, music, meditation, myth, personal metaphor, ritual or imagery. It is a dialogue and exploration of your own nature, experiences, awareness, personal spirituality and wisdom. |
how does art therapy and counselling work?
SELF SUPPORT & GUIDANCE Art therapy processes help develop and strengthen the capacity to 'feel' and ability to 'know' how to offer self-support and guidance. In this sense, art therapy strengthens your own intuition and 'inner compass.' It can help regulate strong emotions and offers a means of reflection and meditation. MAPPING A WAY FORWARD "Mapping" in art therapy is a practical tool that helps us achieve a sense of where we are in the present and what resources and personal qualities we may recognise, develop or strengthen moving forward. COUNSELLING Counselling offers non-judgemental, compassionate care in the ebbs and flows of life. It supports the development of skills that expand the way in which we reflect, respond and interact with the world around us. |
Sessions...
Central Coast Art Therapy & Counselling takes a holistic approach acknowledging the body, mind, heart and spirit. As such, there is a broad offering of processes and great flexibility in what we can do during our sessions. Depending on what you may need during our work together, art therapy & counselling may be intermingled with 'walk & talk' therapy as well as processes that engage with art making, art exhibitions, creative and expressive modalities, and learning from the natural world (ecopsycotherapy), working both in and outside of the therapy room.

Delicate Grief:
Bereavement support for parents navigating the delicate grief of stillbirth, perinatal or neonatal death of a baby or miscarriage.
Experiencing such separation can involve a flooding of confusing emotions and thoughts, many of which may be painful and overwhelming. It’s during this time it can often feel that there is no clear way forward.
My aim is to offer a safe space in which you will be able to express, explore and navigate grief in a way that is therapeutic and supported, working with grief as a power guide to the heart.
